The Greater Accra Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has vowed to ensure the permanent closure of St. Olives Grammar School, formerly Happy Home School, in Dodowa, following reports that the school relocated from its original premises without notifying the relevant authorities.
The school has been under public scrutiny after a Channel One News report highlighted the plight of an eight-year-old pupil who risks leg amputation after her boarding housemistress allegedly immersed her legs in a bucket of hot water.
Channel One News’ checks at the school on Wednesday, January 14, revealed that the facility had been closed.
Speaking at a meeting with the victim, Jalila Abdul Jalil, her family, and education officials on Thursday, January 15, Madam Linda Ocloo stressed that justice for the child is non-negotiable. She also referenced prior complaints about similar incidents at the school.
“Trust me, she’ll get justice. That one day is an assurance. The news is all over. So we can assure you that justice for her is first assured. As for the closure of the school, we’ll make sure that the school is closed completely.
“I don’t know how to describe the woman, and from the look of things, you know, the neighbours around are also complaining about the treatment of the kids. And so we advise, we know everybody’s watching.
“If you have your ward there, please just go and take care [of your ward]…If you can’t even take care of your ward, look for a relative to take care of him or her. So if you are watching and you still leave your ward there or your child there, and something happens, I believe no one is going to blame anybody.
“I believe by now parents should make sure that every child, I mean, should leave that school. So that school will be empty.”
