Rehabilitation works have commenced on the long-troubled outer lane of the Darkuman-Hansonic Junction stretch, offering relief to motorists and residents who have endured deteriorating road conditions for more than a decade.
The affected stretch has been a source of concern for drivers and other road users, with its poor condition making movement difficult and raising concerns about road safety.
Motorists who regularly use the route have repeatedly complained about the deteriorated roadway, particularly the challenges it poses to vehicles, pedestrians and other road users.
In response to the persistent concerns, the Roads Ministry has engaged contractors including Awerco Construction Limited to rehabilitate the affected sections and address some of the underlying drainage and road infrastructure challenges.
The rehabilitation works officially commenced on Friday, August 21, 2026, with construction crews currently working on the road.
The intervention is expected to improve drainage along the stretch while restoring damaged portions of the roadway to provide a safer and more durable route for motorists and residents.
The scope of the works has also been extended from Atico Junction through to the Kaneshie First Light intersection, bringing additional sections of the corridor under rehabilitation.
The expanded works are expected to improve connectivity along the route and ease some of the difficulties faced by motorists who use the corridor daily.
Residents and motorists are hopeful that the rehabilitation will be completed within the scheduled timeframe and provide a lasting solution to the road and drainage problems that have persisted in the area for years.
