The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng following comments he made describing the party as “fake” and questioning the credibility of its internal elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said it had taken note of remarks made by the former Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12.
According to the NPP, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng not only referred to the party as a “fake party” but also stated that he no longer considered himself a member.
The party further accused him of making disparaging comments and alleging that the NPP’s 2023 Presidential primary was rigged in favour of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2024 general elections.
The NPP has strongly rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless and unsubstantiated.
The party maintained that the 2023 Presidential primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent and credible manner, reflecting the will of party delegates.
“The said primary has been widely acknowledged by all candidates who participated, as well as by well-meaning members of the party, as having been conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner,” the statement said.
The party described Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s conduct and utterances as reprehensible and damaging to the unity, values and integrity of the NPP.
As a result, it said it has invoked relevant provisions of its constitution to begin the process of expelling him, in line with due process.
