Former Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Yohane Amarh Ashitey, has dismissed allegations of vote buying at the Tema East Constituency, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The allegations surfaced shortly after voting began at 7:00 a.m. at the Twedaase No. 1 JHS, where some delegates reportedly gathered at the entrance of the voting centre, allegedly demanding money before casting their ballots.
“There is nothing like vote buying, but what we do as a political party is that once people are coming from their homes, some will pick up vehicles, so they are normally given T&T so that nobody will use transportation fare as an excuse not to come and vote,” he said.
He further downplayed the controversy surrounding the exercise, noting that tensions and accusations among different campaign camps are common during internal party elections and should not be used to characterise the New Patriotic Party.
He expressed confidence in the conduct of the polls, stressing that the presence of security personnel had helped maintain peace and allowed delegates to exercise their franchise without intimidation.CitiNewsRoom
