The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has reaffirmed his commitment to personally monitoring road projects across the country, saying effective supervision requires regular visits to project sites rather than relying solely on reports submitted in Accra.
According to the minister, shortly after assuming office, he realised that reading progress reports from the capital without physically inspecting projects would not enable him to achieve the targets set for him by President John Dramani Mahama within the stipulated timeframe.
This, he said, has informed his decision to regularly visit ongoing road projects across the country whenever his schedule permits.
Speaking after a two-day inspection tour of road projects in the Eastern, Volta and Oti Regions, Mr Agbodza said he and his team visited and engaged more than a dozen contractors working on projects under the government’s “Big Push” initiative and other road programmes.
He explained that the inspections were intended to assess the actual progress of work on the ground and compare it with the reports received at the Ministry.
Mr Agbodza noted that the media accompanied the inspection team to independently witness the state of the projects and the level of progress being made.
“This is the standard I am setting for myself and for this Ministry: to be present where the work is happening, to see the pace for myself, and to hold every contractor accountable to the timelines Ghanaians deserve,” he stated.
The Roads and Highways Minister stressed that the government’s “Big Push” agenda is not merely a slogan but a practical commitment to accelerating infrastructure development across the country.
He said the progress witnessed during the tour had reinforced his resolve to continue monitoring projects on a region-by-region basis until the impact of the interventions is felt by all Ghanaians.
Mr Agbodza also called on the public to support the government’s infrastructure agenda and join him on the journey towards improving the nation’s road network.
The minister’s inspection tour forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Roads and Highways to ensure quality delivery, adherence to project timelines, and greater accountability in the execution of road infrastructure projects nationwide.
