The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has withdrawn the airport access permits of two Port Health officers after they were caught allegedly charging a passenger more than the approved fee for a Yellow Fever Card at Kotoka International Airport.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 6, GACL said the incident occurred on August 5 at Terminal 3, where the officers allegedly charged a foreign passport holder USD40 instead of the approved USD20 fee for the card. The approved fee for Ghanaians is GH¢100.

According to GACL, the officers’ airport identity cards have been withdrawn and deactivated, effectively barring them from working at Kotoka International Airport or any other airport managed by the company.

    Immigration officer reassigned

The company also addressed a separate incident involving a Ghana Immigration Service officer captured in a viral video allegedly asking a passenger for money, referring to it as “breakfast.”

GACL said the Ghana Immigration Service had confirmed that the officer had been reassigned from the airport.

    ‘Everyone is being watched’

Reaffirming its stance against extortion, GACL warned airport staff that their conduct was under scrutiny.

“Everyone is being watched,” the company said.

It also urged passengers to report any incidents of extortion through its dedicated hotline 054 217 5636 by call, WhatsApp or text message.

“Spot it. Record it. Report it,” GACL urged.

The statement, signed by the company’s management, said GACL “remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy on extortion and to protecting the integrity and reputation of Ghana’s airports.”
