Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has advised young people against recording or taking pictures of themselves during intimate moments.
He said the practice exposes people to the risk of having their private moments leaked and circulated on social media.
His comments come amid increasing public attention over leaked intimate videos involving some individuals, including people considered influential in society.
Speaking at the maiden National Youth Forum in Accra on Wednesday, August 19, the YEA CEO said people could enjoy their private lives without creating digital records that could later be shared without their consent.
“Whatever you are doing in private is your business. We don’t want to know, and we don’t want to see your video, and we don’t want to see your picture,” Basintale said.
He noted that people in previous generations also had private relationships but did not have the technology to document and circulate intimate moments.
“People before us may have even done many things than we did, but they never took videos and they never took pictures, and so you and I do not even know what happened,” he said.
Basintale therefore urged young people to be cautious about creating intimate content, particularly in an era where digital files can easily be copied, shared and circulated widely.
