‘Can you compare your CV to mine?’ – Aboagye Gyedu blasts Titus Glover over Akufo-Addo’s appointment

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, has responded to comments made by aspiring National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, concerning his appointment as CEO.

According to the former VALCO CEO, he was competent and qualified to be appointed CEO during the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his appointment was not solely because Titus-Glover had asked the former president to appoint him.

Aboagye Gyedu explained that, at the time, Titus-Glover was his boss and he believed his own qualifications and professional experience were superior to those of the former Greater Accra Regional Minister.

He argued that politics is not always based on merit, which, in his view, gave Titus-Glover an advantage over him despite his own qualifications and experience.

Aboagye Gyedu further suggested that Titus-Glover’s subsequent reshuffling from his position as Greater Accra Regional Minister was linked to his performance in office.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM on September 16, 2026, Aboagye Gyedu said, “To say that I didn’t dream or I wasn’t qualified to become a CEO if not because politics is not merit-based. Because if it is merit-based, I don’t believe Titus Glover could compare his CV to mine in any way.

“But when we met and he was my boss, I gave him all the cooperation. So, I told him, I am here to support you to succeed.

“Sometimes, when we went for a meeting and I knew something would expose him, I wouldn’t say it publicly. I would go to him privately and talk to him.

“Who would employ you and, within six months, remove you?”

Titus had initially stated that the behaviour exhibited by some of these CEOs was unacceptable and contributed to the party NPP’s electoral defeat in the 2024 elections

Citing Aboagye Gyedu, as an example, Titus-Glover said he personally lobbied for his appointment but was disappointed when Aboagye Gyedu allegedly sacked people he had employed at the state-owned institution.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, an excerpt of which has been shared on social media, Titus-Glover claimed that his driver and more than 100 other employees he had helped recruit were dismissed shortly after he left the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council.

“Aboagye Gyedu never knew that he would be the CEO of VALCO. I had to speak with the President to give him that position. When I left the President’s office, I called him and told him that the President was making me the Greater Accra Minister, so the next morning he should bring me his CV because I had lobbied for the position of VALCO CEO for him.

“When I took the CV, two weeks later, we went to Peduase for a Cabinet meeting. I told the President about the position, and he told me that he would give him the position.

“Could you believe that the job President Akufo-Addo gave me gave me the opportunity to employ a lot of people, about 100? Aboagye Gyedu, I gave him a slot. Do you know that less than 24 hours after I left for the Regional Coordinating Council, Aboagye Gyedu sacked all of them? He sacked all of them, including my driver. Today, go to VALCO and see how NDC people are employing staff. Some of the CEOs that President Akufo-Addo gave work to made us lose the election,” he said.
