Popular Ghanaian marriage counsellor, Cyril George Carstensen Lutterodt, widely known as Counsellor Lutterodt, has reportedly been arrested and detained by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly inciting violence and engaging in conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
According to reports, the controversial counsellor made comments with the intention to incite Ga youth to exhume the body of the late legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba from his residence at East Legon in Accra.
Lutterodt reportedly argued that burying the late musician at what he described as an unapproved location on Ga land was disrespectful to local traditions and authorities. He allegedly called on the youth in the Ga community to take immediate action by digging up the body if the burial process did not follow the proper cultural and traditional procedures.
His comments quickly sparked outrage on social media and among sections of the public, with many condemning the statement as insensitive and capable of inciting unrest.
Sources indicate that the police moved swiftly after the video and statements began circulating widely online. Officers of the Ghana Police Service subsequently picked him up for questioning as part of investigations into the alleged incitement and threats to public order.
Authorities say the arrest forms part of efforts to prevent any possible disturbances, particularly as emotions remain high following the family issues surrounding the death of Daddy Lumba, one of Ghana’s most celebrated highlife musicians.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ghana Police Service has not yet issued a detailed official statement on the arrest.
