The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority has conducted a high-level sensitisation workshop for the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority on the introduction of new vehicle registration number plates embedded with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.

The engagement, held at the Customs Headquarters, focused on enhancing collaboration between the two agencies to detect fake number plates and strengthen vehicle monitoring systems.

Chief Executive Officer of DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, and Commissioner of the Customs Division, Aaron Kanor, jointly issued a directive for the implementation of the initiative.

The RFID-based system is expected to improve the identification and tracking of vehicles, particularly at border points, helping to curb smuggling and related illegal activities.

Officials say the workshop also aimed at harmonising data systems between the DVLA and GRA to enhance surveillance and boost revenue mobilisation through more efficient enforcement mechanisms.
