Roads Minister terminates Black Oak contract for Bogoso–Prestea road project

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Highways Authority, Mallam Issah Ishak, to immediately begin the process of terminating the contract of Black Oak, the contractor handling the Bogoso–Prestea Road project.

Although the contract was awarded in 2025, official reports indicate that the contractor only mobilised to the site in March 2026. After reportedly clearing vegetation along sections of the road, Black Oak allegedly abandoned the project, citing the absence of the road’s design.

According to findings by the Regional Highways Engineer, less than two percent of the total project work has so far been completed.

Mr Agbodza issued the directive during an inspection tour of ongoing Big Push projects in the Western Region. He explained that even though the Bogoso–Prestea road project is not officially part of the Big Push initiative, it remains a critical priority for government.

“We will not allow any contractor to delay this project,” the minister stated.

He further instructed the Ghana Highways Authority to fast-track the termination process to allow work on the road to resume without further delays.

Attempts to reach Black Oak for comments on the matter were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
