Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged the management and staff of Metro Mass Transit Limited to ensure proper maintenance and disciplined operation of 100 newly commissioned buses deployed to improve public transportation across the country.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang made the call after commissioning the new fleet on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama in Accra on Friday, May 22.

According to the Vice President, the intervention forms part of government’s broader efforts to revitalise Ghana’s transport sector and ease the burden on commuters.

“The government intends to revitalise Ghana’s transportation sector by expanding safe and accessible public transport,” she stated.

She disclosed that the buses are part of a larger intervention expected to see 300 buses deployed nationwide to serve high-demand areas.

According to her, the buses have been fully registered, insured and inspected ahead of deployment.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed the importance of an efficient transport system to national development.

She noted that the intervention is expected to improve accessibility and restore confidence in public transportation.

“An efficient transport system is essential to national development. This intervention aims to ease commuter burdens, improve accessibility, and provide more reliable and affordable options while restoring dignity and confidence in the public transport system,” said the Vice President.

The commissioning of the buses, she noted, reflects government’s broader focus on infrastructure improvement and improved public service delivery.
