The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has returned 105 foreign nationals to their home countries following an intelligence-led operation in Asankragwa that rescued 112 suspected trafficking victims.

The raid was conducted on May 20, 2026, by the Asankragwa Sector Command under Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Kwabena Adjei, targeting premises linked to commercial sex activities.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 1, the GIS confirmed that the initial screening identified the group as 110 Nigerians, one Beninese, and one Cameroonian—all female, aged between 12 and 38.

The individuals were subsequently transferred to a holding centre in the Greater Accra Region.

“Initial screening revealed the group comprised 110 Nigerians, one Beninese, and one Cameroonian, all female, aged between 12 and 38. They were later transferred to a holding centre in the Greater Accra Region for further processing,” the statement said.

Investigations by the Anti Human Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons (AHSTIP) unit later identified seven suspects and confirmed 105 victims.

The GIS National Operations Department, in coordination with relevant embassies and Cameroonian community representatives, facilitated the safe return of the 105 victims.

The seven remaining suspects are still under investigation and face potential prosecution.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Samuel Basintale Amadu, urged foreign nationals to abide by local immigration and criminal laws, reaffirming the Service’s commitment to working with other security agencies to fight human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and transnational crime.
