Boeing has projected that Ghana’s long‑awaited national airline could return to the skies within 18 months—provided government establishes the necessary institutional structures and implementation arrangements.
The projection was shared during discussions between President John Dramani Mahama and senior Boeing executives in New York on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Boeing reaffirmed its readiness to support Ghana’s aviation ambitions, noting that the 18‑month timeline is achievable if the foundational work is completed on schedule.
However, the talks extended far beyond aircraft acquisition. President Mahama pushed for a broader, long‑term partnership aimed at strengthening Ghana’s entire aviation ecosystem.
“Ghana does not want its relationship with Boeing to be defined simply by the purchase of aircraft. We want a strategic partnership that helps us build an aviation ecosystem—creating skilled jobs, transferring technology, strengthening our industrial base and positioning Ghana as an aviation and logistics hub for West Africa,” President Mahama said.
He emphasised that government is seeking international partners willing to invest in Ghana, support capacity building and contribute to the country’s economic transformation agenda.
A major proposal under consideration is the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hub in Ghana to serve airlines across West Africa and beyond. The envisioned partnership also includes aviation training, skills development and technology transfer—initiatives expected to create high‑value jobs for young Ghanaians.
The move aligns with the government’s broader Reset Ghana agenda, which aims to attract strategic investments and position the country as a regional centre for aviation, trade and logistics.
While Boeing’s indicative 18‑month timeline offers a clear pathway for the revival of a national airline, the actual schedule will depend on how quickly government can put the required structures and implementation mechanisms in place.
