Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, has called for a deeper parliamentary interrogation of the price floor policy, urging lawmakers to move beyond short-term considerations and adopt a long-term, data-driven national approach.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Thursday, January 22, he stressed that the policy must be examined from a holistic national perspective, warning that premature decisions could have unintended consequences if not properly scrutinised.
Boamah-Nyarko noted that the policy will come before Parliament through the Energy Committee, where he expects extensive engagement to take place.
According to him, the committee process should allow for broader consultations and technical assessments that would help Parliament arrive at a more sustainable outcome.
He further indicated his openness to evidence-based persuasion, stating that lawmakers must be guided by credible data and competing analyses from stakeholders both for and against the policy.
He argued that such debates should prioritise long-term economic stability rather than short-term political gains.
“I want us to look at this from a holistic national perspective. I believe that this price floor policy should be thoroughly interrogated. It will come before us at some level of the Energy Committee in Parliament, and I am sure that as we go back to Parliament, deeper engagement will be made on this so that we can find a more sustainable solution.
“I am amenable to persuasive arguments. I want to see numbers and different groups of people trying to argue for and against it, not for the short term, but for the longer, sustainable term. I think when we have the benefit of that information, we can properly guide the government in dealing with this price floor policy,” he said.
