The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has inaugurated a nine-member Timber Monitoring Team to tackle illegal activities in forest reserves across Ghana.

The team is tasked with monitoring all 288 forest reserves, focusing on illegal logging, abuse of officers, and other activities that threaten the sustainability of the country’s forest resources.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration on Monday, January 12, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, explained that the initiative is critical for gathering intelligence and curbing unlawful activities in the reserves.
“We have 288 forest reserves. It might be difficult for the Forest Commissioner to know what is happening at all times, because some of these situations require a lot of intelligence.
“That is why this team is very important. The team will look at illegal logging and, in some instances, attacks on forest officers,” he said. Citi News Room
