Preparatory works for the construction of the Accra–Kumasi Expressway have hit a major milestone, with the government successfully clearing 175.6 kilometres of right-of-way along the strategic corridor.

The project, which was initially projected to take 20 weeks to complete the clearing phase, was finished ahead of time in 19 weeks.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Minister of Defence, Gilbert Adjei, described the achievement as a critical step toward transforming the transport sector along Ghana’s busiest arterial route.

Exulting over the completion of the initial task, the Minister wrote, “Mission accomplished! We are pleased to announce that 175.6km of right-of-way has been cleared on the Accra–Kumasi Expressway in just 19 weeks, against an estimated 20 weeks.”

Adjei noted that the speedy execution of the clearing phase sets a strong foundation for the main civil engineering works to begin without unnecessary delays.

“This significant milestone brings us one step closer to the commencement of construction works on the Accra–Kumasi Expressway. With the preparatory works progressing ahead of schedule, the vision of a modern, efficient and safer expressway is taking shape,” he added.

The Defence Minister extended his appreciation to key institutional stakeholders involved in the exercise, highlighting the collaborative efforts that powered the operation.

“We commend the teams from the Ghana Armed Forces, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister for Finance; and Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways, for their commitment, dedication and teamwork in driving this project forward. We are one step closer to transforming the Accra–Kumasi corridor,” the statement said.

The dualisation and expansion of the Accra–Kumasi dual carriageway remains a key infrastructure effort aimed at reducing travel time, curbing highway accidents, and boosting inter-regional trade across the country.
