The Ministry of Health has begun a three-day mid-year review of government’s key healthcare commitments outlined in the NDC’s 2024 Manifesto.
The review, which started in Ho on Saturday, August 15, 2026, is being led by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and brings together heads of agencies, institutions and programmes under the Ministry.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, the ministry said the exercise is focused on assessing progress, identifying challenges and strengthening the implementation of government’s healthcare promises.
Key areas under review include the Free Primary Healthcare initiative, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCare, the expansion of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), retooling of health facilities and the introduction of specialised nursing programmes.

The completion of abandoned health projects will also form part of the discussions, with heads of agencies expected to provide updates on achievements, challenges and measures needed to accelerate implementation.
As part of the three-day meeting, participants will receive training in Public Financial Management to promote efficient use of public resources and strengthen accountability within the health sector.
