The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has called on regulators to strictly enforce building codes following the fatal collapse of a structure at Accra New Town.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, March 29, claimed three lives and left more than 20 others injured, with victims currently receiving treatment at various health facilities.
During a visit to the site on Tuesday, March 31, the Ga Mantse expressed concern over lapses in regulatory enforcement and stressed the need for urgent action to prevent future occurrences.
“Regulators and relevant institutions must ensure that building codes are enforced,” he said.
He questioned the structural integrity of the building and called for a comprehensive review of similar structures, warning that partial safety assurances are not enough.
“If this is the only part of the building that is effective and why it has collapsed, then the rest of the structures must be assessed. We cannot live like this,” he added.
The Ga Mantse also extended condolences to families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, urging authorities to prioritise preventive measures to safeguard lives.
