President John Dramani Mahama has departed Ghana for an official visit to France at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
The visit, which begins Monday, April 6, will see him participate in the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon and later hold bilateral talks in Paris.
The trip is expected to deepen Ghana–France relations while addressing global health concerns.
According to a statement from the Presidency dated April 6, the President will also engage global leaders and experts on strategies to strengthen health systems and international cooperation.
“President John Dramani Mahama will undertake an official visit to France on Monday, 6 April 2026, at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron,” the statement read in part.
At the summit, President Mahama is expected to co-chair the high-level segment alongside President Macron, bringing together world leaders, health ministers and experts to deliberate on global health systems, sustainable food production and emerging health threats.
He will deliver two keynote addresses, including one at a meeting on Global Health Architecture co-chaired by President Macron and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus of the World Health Organization, where discussions will focus on reforms and a political declaration to strengthen global health cooperation.
“The discussions between the two leaders will centre on strengthening Ghana-France bilateral relations and exploring cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including health, education, trade, investment, and regional security,” the statement further noted.
President Mahama is also scheduled to visit the Élysée Palace for bilateral talks and will be received by Gérard Larcher at the French Senate ahead of the meeting.
