IGP Yohuno promotes senior sfficers, urges Police to make Ghana as safe as “advanced countries”

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno has announced a nationwide promotion of police officers, including several senior ranks from ACP to Commissioner, as part of efforts to motivate personnel and strengthen public safety.

Speaking at a ceremony, IGP Yohuno said the promotions were a “gift” to officers across the country who have risked their lives to protect Ghanaians, including those serving in Cameroon.

“Whether you are in Upper West, Ashanti, at the border, or in the North — you don’t need to come here before the IGP and POMAB see that you are working hard,” he stated.

The IGP disclosed that promotions for senior ranks were sent to the Police Council and forwarded to the President, who “wholeheartedly” approved the elevation of officers from ACP to DCOP, and DCOP to Commissioner.

Calling the promotions an encouragement to “work more,” Mr. Yohuno stressed that the goal is to make Ghana comparable to advanced countries where citizens “can go about their normal duties without any attack from terrorists.”

He urged officers to ensure Ghanaians “can sleep well” and travel safely at any hour, including from Accra to Kumasi or Tamale, without fear of highway criminals.

“Security is the first step for this country to grow,” the IGP said, adding that safe conditions will attract investors.

“We haven’t reached anywhere yet. We shouldn’t be swollen-headed… Let’s continue to fight.”

He concluded by thanking the media for “always carrying our message across” and said the Ghana Police Service aims to become the first choice for anyone seeking to join the security services: “Even today, people are saying, if they have the opportunity to decide again, they will choose Police.”
