Business mogul and Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners, Mr Ibrahim Mahama, has announced plans for significant infrastructure development in communities surrounding the Damang mine in the Western Region following his company’s takeover of its operations.
His remarks come in the wake of the official handover of the mine, signaling a new phase in its management under local ownership and renewed focus on community impact.
Speaking after the ceremony, Mr Mahama disclosed that the company is already reviewing proposals from residents, including plans to construct sports facilities across nearby communities.
“I want to pledge this, and I want to say it for everybody to hear.
I got a text from one of our young men in here.
It says we should build astroturfs for all the communities, which we’re looking to do,” he said.
Beyond sports infrastructure, he outlined broader plans to transform transport connectivity in the area.
According to him, Engineers and Planners has initiated processes to develop an airport in Damang to ease travel to Accra.
“We’ve applied for Damang to have an airport, and within six months, Damang will have an airport, such that we can fly to Accra easily,” he stated.
He further revealed plans for a major road project expected to link Damang to Cape Coast within two years, aimed at improving accessibility and boosting economic activity.
“In the next two years, we’ll be able to drive from here to Cape Coast on a concrete road or a natural road,” he added.
Mr Mahama emphasised that the proposed projects are not mere promises but form part of a deliberate plan to drive development in the area.
“I beg you, this is not political talk. This is real talk,” he stressed.
