Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has formally received the new Country Manager of the African Development Bank, Halima H. Hashi, as she assumes duty in Ghana.
The Minister said it was an honour to receive her letters of introduction and officially welcome her to the country.
“It was an honour to receive the open letters of the distinguished Halima H. Hashi,” he said.
Mr Ablakwa used the occasion to acknowledge the Bank’s long-standing presence in Ghana, noting that the institution has supported the country’s development efforts since establishing its office in 1973.
“I expressed Ghana’s great respect and deep appreciation for the impact the African Development Bank has had on our development,” he stated.
He highlighted key government programmes backed by the Bank, including the Big Push infrastructure initiative, Feed Ghana, the Eastern Corridor Road project, artificial intelligence initiatives, and irrigation interventions.
The Minister also pointed to the scale of ongoing support from the Bank. “Ghana proudly acknowledges the AfDB current investment portfolio of about US$1.3 billion in active projects,” he said.
According to him, the government remains committed to strengthening collaboration with the Bank, with support from John Dramani Mahama in his continental role.
“I assured that President John Mahama will continue to offer his valuable guidance as the African Union Champion for African Financial Institutions. l and transformative tenure,” he concluded.
