The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in the Ashanti Region has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability following its participation in the AshantiFest/Ashanti Expo 2026 held at Jubilee Park in Kumasi on April 6, 2026.
The six-day event, organised as part of the broader AshantiFest celebrations, brought together businesses, government institutions, and development stakeholders to highlight investment opportunities, culture, and innovation in the Ashanti Region.
During the Expo, the EPA used the platform to intensify public education on environmental issues, promote responsible practices, and engage operators without the required permits.
Speaking on behalf of the authority, the Ashanti Regional Director, Dr. Jackson Adiyiah Nyantakyi, outlined key environmental challenges facing the region and called for collective action to address them.
He also highlighted an initiative by the EPA’s Chief Executive Officer, Prof Nana Ama Brown Klutse, to decentralise EPA offices across the country. According to him, the move is aligned with the government’s resetting agenda and is expected to improve access to environmental services and strengthen regulatory enforcement.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including former President John Dramani Mahama and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as well as government officials such as Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, and Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene.
As part of its activities, the EPA observed a dedicated “EPA Day,” during which officials engaged with stakeholders, including Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs). The session focused on environmental permitting, compliance, and regulatory procedures for businesses and institutions.
The authority said the engagements helped strengthen collaboration and improve public understanding of environmental protection, stressing that adherence to environmental regulations is key to protecting public health and supporting sustainable development.
The EPA described its participation as successful and said it will continue to intensify public education, strengthen partnerships, and enforce environmental laws.
