The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has commended Ghana for its sustained commitment to Pan-Africanism and its role in strengthening Africa’s global voice.
He said Ghana continues to play a central role in shaping international discourse on historical injustices, reparatory justice, and the rights and dignity of Africans and people of African descent.
The remarks were made during a farewell ceremony for Ghana’s outgoing Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Dr. Robert Afriyie.
The event also highlighted Ghana’s broader diplomatic engagement within the AU system and its contributions to continental integration efforts.
In a statement issued on Thursday, May 14, the AU noted that the Chairperson expressed appreciation for Ghana’s active participation in the work of the Union.
“The Chairperson expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Afriyie for his active and constructive engagement in the work of the Union, as well as for Ghana’s longstanding commitment to Pan-Africanism,” the statement said.
It further highlighted Ghana’s advocacy role in advancing justice-related global discussions, including recent efforts at the United Nations level.
“He further commended Ghana’s important contribution to advancing Africa’s voice and global standing, including its advocacy on issues of historical justice and reparatory justice,” it added.
Ambassador Afriyie, on his part, expressed gratitude for the AU Commission Chairperson’s leadership and reaffirmed Ghana’s continued support for the objectives of the African Union
