PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE HEADS OF THE BEDIAKO WE CLAN ON THE ILLEGITIMATE INSTALLATION OF A CHIEF

Good morning ladies and gentlemen of the media, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and the general public.

We, the heads and principal members of the Bediako We Clan, have called this press conference to officially register our strongest objection and total rejection of the purported installation of an individual as chief without the approval, consent, and participation of the legitimate kingmakers and customary authorities of the clan.

The Bediako We Clan wishes to state clearly that the said installation is null, void, unlawful, and does not conform to the customs, traditions, and accepted procedures governing chieftaincy matters within our traditional area.

We are deeply disturbed by the actions of certain individuals who, for their personal interest and selfish gains, have decided to disregard the laid down customary processes and unlawfully impose a person on the stool. Such actions threaten the peace, unity, and dignity of the traditional institution.

As custodians of the traditions and heritage of the Bediako We Clan, we wish to put on record that:

The clan did not nominate nor approve the said individual.

The recognized kingmakers were not consulted.

The customary rites and traditional procedures required for a legitimate installation were not followed.

Therefore, the individual parading himself as chief has no authority whatsoever to act in that capacity.

We are by this statement cautioning the general public, government institutions, security agencies, traditional councils, and all stakeholders not to recognize or deal with the said person as a legitimate chief until the proper customary processes are duly observed.

The Bediako We Clan remains committed to peace, unity, and respect for customary law. However, we shall not sit unconcerned while the sacred traditions of our ancestors are manipulated and disrespected.

    We are therefore calling on:

    The Traditional Council,

The Regional and National House of Chiefs,

The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs,

And the security agencies, to intervene immediately to prevent any possible disturbance of peace and to uphold the sanctity of the chieftaincy institution. Similar concerns over unauthorized or disputed enstoolments have been raised in other traditional areas across Ghana.

We further urge the youth and supporters of the clan to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid any act that may disrupt peace within the community.

The stool is sacred and must not be reduced to personal ambition or unlawful manipulation.

    Thank you.

    Signed:

Heads and Elders of the Bediako We Clan
