    Ayitey Powers arrested over alleged death threat against Yaw Ampofo Ankrah

    Former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been arrested by the police over an alleged death threat against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah. The Accra Regional Police Command confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, August 24, 2026, saying it followed the circulation of a video on social media in which the former boxer allegedly threatened the life of Mr Ampofo Ankrah.     Mr Frederick Opoku, the Acting Commissioner of the Rent Control Department, says it is an offence for landlords and private hostel operators to increase rent charges without the approval of the Rent Control Department.     Roads Ministry threatens EOCO action against surveyors over inflated compensation claims

    The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, says the government is considering referring two quantity surveyors to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over alleged attempts to manipulate compensation claims involving properties affected by road projects.     CAGD to close unauthorised MDAs’ bank accounts

    The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has cautioned ministries, departments, agencies and other public institutions against opening bank accounts without obtaining prior written authorisation. The department said the directive applies to all entities governed by Ghana’s public financial management laws and covers accounts opened either with the Bank of Ghana or commercial banks. According to the CAGD, its monitoring has revealed instances where some public institutions opened bank accounts with commercial banks without securing the necessary approval.     Government clears US$1.47bn energy sector debt, save $750m – Jinapor

    The government has paid off about US$1.47 billion in outstanding energy-sector obligations as part of efforts to restore financial stability to the power sector, Energy and Green Transition Minister, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has disclosed.
