The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, says the government is considering referring two quantity surveyors to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over alleged attempts to manipulate compensation claims involving properties affected by road projects. The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has cautioned ministries, departments, agencies and other public institutions against opening bank accounts without obtaining prior written authorisation. The department said the directive applies to all entities governed by Ghana’s public financial management laws and covers accounts opened either with the Bank of Ghana or commercial banks. According to the CAGD, its monitoring has revealed instances where some public institutions opened bank accounts with commercial banks without securing the necessary approval. The government has paid off about US$1.47 billion in outstanding energy-sector obligations as part of efforts to restore financial stability to the power sector, Energy and Green Transition Minister, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has disclosed.
