The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a planned 5-hour power interruption in parts of Accra on Sunday, August 2, 2026, to allow for maintenance works aimed at improving service delivery. According to the ECG’s Accra East Region, the exercise will result in a temporary interruption in power supply to some customers within the Airport area and its surrounding communities. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has fined a number of traders at Tudu GH¢450 each for failing to comply with a directive to suspend trading during the National Sanitation Day exercise. The traders were issued on-the-spot fines after AMA enforcement officers found them conducting business while the nationwide clean-up exercise was in progress. In addition to the fines, the Assembly confiscated the goods of traders who ignored the directive to close their shops and participate in the sanitation exercise. Parliament has approved a concession agreement to reintroduce road and bridge tolls through a nationwide electronic toll collection system under a public-private partnership arrangement. The agreement establishes the legal and commercial framework for the financing, design, construction, operation, maintenance and eventual transfer of an electronic tolling system aimed at improving revenue mobilisation for road infrastructure.
