E-Block at Ashaiman Technical Institute to be completed by March – MP assures

Contractors are back on site at the long-abandoned E-Block project at Ashaiman Technical Institute (ATI), with works now about 90 per cent complete and on track for full completion by March, Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey, has announced.
The MP gave the assurance during an inspection tour of the school, where management renewed calls for government support to address persistent infrastructure challenges that have constrained teaching and learning.
The E-Block project, which began under the first John Dramani Mahama administration, stalled for nearly eight years after a change of government, leaving the institute with a serious shortage of classroom space.
Speaking after assessing progress on the facility, Mr Norgbey said the resumption of work signals relief for both students and staff.
He expressed optimism that the block would be ready for use by March, adding that its completion would significantly ease congestion and allow the school to admit more students.
Authorities of the institute say the lack of adequate infrastructure has limited enrolment despite strong demand for technical and vocational education.
The Administrator of ATI, Oreillia Okusu, explained that while the school has the capacity to take in more learners, insufficient classrooms have made expansion difficult.
She also highlighted the absence of dormitory facilities as another major concern, particularly for students on industrial attachment and computer placement who commute from distant communities.
According to her, many students are forced to rent accommodation in town at high costs, placing additional financial pressure on them and their families.
In response, Mr Norgbey pledged to engage the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, to explore the possibility of providing hostel facilities to address the accommodation challenge.
He reiterated his commitment to working with relevant authorities to improve infrastructure at the institute and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
