The first batch of 300 Ghanaians who have opted to voluntarily repatriate from South Africa due to the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country arrived at the Accra International Airport on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

The repatriated Ghanaians were welcomed by a strong delegation led by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, and were given packages to help their reintegration into their societies.

One of the returnees shared details of the package with the media at their reception.

According to him, the government gave each of the returnees GH¢50,000.

Additionally, each of them was given an undisclosed amount of money they were to use for transportation to their homes.

They were also given a GhanaMustGo bag full of items. Some of the items in the bag include food materials and clothing.

The man praised the president and his government for working to bring them back to Ghana.

“I thank the president and his cabinet. God bless them all,” he said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, ahead of the arrival of the detainees, said the benefits include a welcome home financial package, transportation support to various destinations across the country, and a reintegration allowance.

The package also includes free psychosocial support services for victims as well as inclusion in a special government database for job and startup opportunities.

    The benefits announced are:

    Welcome Home Financial Package

Transportation Assistance to various destinations across Ghana

    Reintegration Allowance

    Free psychological support

Entry into a special database for jobs and startup opportunities
