The Ghana High Commission in Togo hosted a colourful and memorable ceremony in Lomé to commemorate Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary, bringing together members of the Diplomatic Corps, traditional authorities, political personalities, and the Ghanaian community residing in Togo.
The well-attended event was organised under the leadership of Ghana’s High Commissioner to Togo, Ambassador Captain George Kofi Nfodjo (Rtd), with the support of the Deputy High Commissioner, Mr Bright Kumordzie.
The celebration attracted a diverse audience, including representatives of various diplomatic missions, senior political figures from Ghana, traditional rulers, and queen mothers from the Aflao Traditional Council.
Their presence added prestige and significance to the occasion, reflecting the importance Ghana attaches to cultural diplomacy and strong cross-border relations with neighbouring countries.
The celebration showcased the rich heritage of Ghana through vibrant musical performances, traditional dances, colourful cultural attire, and a variety of authentic Ghanaian dishes.
Guests were treated to a lively display of Ghana’s cultural and culinary traditions, offering a unique experience that highlighted the country’s national pride and cultural diversity.
Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner, Mr Nfodjo underscored the deep historical and cultural ties that exist between Ghana and Togo, noting that the bonds between the peoples of the two nations date back many generations and predate modern political boundaries.
He called for the continued nurturing of these longstanding relationships to promote peace, cooperation, and mutual development for the benefit of both countries.
The High Commissioner also emphasised the role of diplomacy and cultural exchange in strengthening international relations and reaffirmed the High Commission’s commitment to supporting Ghanaians living in Togo to live peacefully and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
He expressed appreciation to members of the Diplomatic Corps, traditional authorities, invited guests, and sponsors whose contributions made the celebration possible.
Mr Bright Kumordzie, Deputy High Commissioner, in his remarks highlighted the mission’s dedication to strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and Togo, while promoting cultural appreciation and the welfare of Ghanaians living in the host country.
He encouraged the Ghanaian community and guests to continue celebrating and preserving Ghana’s heritage as a symbol of unity, identity, and national pride.
Organisers expressed optimism that future Independence Day celebrations would continue to bring together friends of Ghana and members of the diaspora to celebrate the country’s progress and shared cultural values.
