The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has issued a strong call to individuals, businesses, and corporate entities across the country to fully comply with their tax obligations, stressing that national development depends on collective contributions.
The appeal was made by the Commissioner-General, Mr Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, during the presentation of over GHS153 million in corporate income tax by the KGL Group in Accra.
While commending KGL Group for its compliance, Mr. Sarpong said the gesture should serve as a benchmark for all taxpayers, emphasizing that tax payment is a civic duty that directly supports infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other critical sectors.
“No one will build Ghana for us. Every Ghanaian must contribute their quota,” he stated, urging citizens to take advantage of the ongoing tax filing period to regularise their tax affairs.
He noted that the Authority is implementing reforms to make tax administration more efficient, transparent, and fair, including improvements in systems and reviews of tax laws to support business growth and build trust between taxpayers and the state.
Mr. Sarpong further challenged indigenous businesses to lead by example by demonstrating discipline and responsibility in meeting their tax obligations, stressing that voluntary compliance remains the most sustainable way to mobilise domestic revenue.
On his part, the Executive Chairman of KGL Group, Alex Apau Dadey, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to responsible corporate conduct, describing tax payment as a duty owed to the people.
“Taxes belong to the people. We are only returning what rightfully belongs to them,” he said, encouraging other businesses to match expectations of government with accountability and compliance.
The event reinforced the message that tax compliance is a shared national responsibility, with the GRA urging all workers, traders, professionals, and business owners to diligently file and pay their taxes to support Ghana’s development.
