The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has directed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to urgently address poor street lighting across the region.
She indicated that despite efforts to procure and distribute streetlights to assemblies, several communities remain poorly lit.
Speaking at the first 2026 meeting of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, the Minister disclosed that her office continues to receive complaints through media reports and social media about dark areas.
She warned that assemblies responsible for such areas could soon be publicly named if the situation persists.
According to her, adequate street lighting is critical to public safety and essential for the effective implementation of the government’s 24-hour economy policy.
She therefore urged assemblies to conduct thorough assessments of street lighting within their jurisdictions in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and relevant road authorities.
