‘I’m not a coward’ – Sylvester Tetteh defends move from Ningo Prampram to Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro

New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspiring General Secretary Sylvester Tetteh said his decision to leave the Ningo Prampram constituency and contest Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro was strategic, not out of fear.

Mr Tetteh said he had already built a strong political record in Ningo Prampram before making the switch, pointing to the results he achieved in the constituency.

“The record I left at Ningo Prampram has not yet been broken in terms of numbers. You can check 2012. The record I made is still the highest in the history of the NPP party,” he said on Adom TV.

Tetteh also rejected suggestions that changing constituencies meant he was afraid of a political challenge.

“I’m not a coward. Before I became the parliamentary candidate in Ningo Prampram, I was the constituency secretary. Everyone saw the work I did there,” he stated.

He said political strategy can sometimes require people to move from one position to another to achieve a desired result. He compared the decision to a football coach changing a player’s position during a match.

“Strategy defines every institution. That’s why when a coach is on the field, he sees who is a striker but at a point may decide to pull him to defence to achieve a result,” he explained.

Tetteh added that his decision was not unique within the NPP. He cited former Salaga MP Boniface Saddique, who also moved to Madina and went on to win the seat for the party.

“I wasn’t the only person who changed his constituency. The former MP for Salaga, Boniface Saddique, also moved to Madina, and he came to win the seat for the party,” he said.
