The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly has announced plans to rezone parts of the Kpeshi Lagoon enclave to allow fully furnished buildings in the area to be regularised for property rate collection.
The decision follows a three-day demolition exercise undertaken by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), during which several structures along the Kpeshi Lagoon buffer zone were pulled down to reduce flooding risks ahead of the rainy season.
Speaking to Citi News, the Municipal Chief Executive for La Dade-Kotopon, Alfredos Nii Anyetei, outlined the Assembly’s post-demolition plans, noting that buildings not affected by the exercise would now be formally recognised under a new zoning arrangement.
“Those who were not affected by the demolition will have their presence regularised within the demarcated area, after which we will collect their property rates and building permits. The area will now be rezoned for residential use.
“So the whole enclave was filled with water; it’s an ecological site, and since it is not a place for residential occupation, the assembly over the years has not granted anybody a permit to be there,” he explained.CitiNewsRoom
