President John Dramani Mahama has assured that the reconstruction of the La General Hospital will be completed by November 2027, providing critical relief to the capital’s strained healthcare system.

Speaking during a visit to the facility on Friday, April 24, the President expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, commending both the contractor and project staff for the progress made so far.

He indicated that the government is determined to ensure the project does not stall again, stressing that it will be delivered within the revised timeline provided by the contractor.

According to him, the completion of the hospital is crucial, particularly because its demolition left a significant gap in healthcare delivery, depriving residents of essential medical services.

President Mahama noted that the new facility will add about 160 beds to the system, helping to ease persistent challenges where patients struggle to secure admission during emergencies.

“The hospital is progressing quite well, and we want to make sure that it doesn’t stall and that it continues and is delivered on the due date. The contractor assures us that by November 2027, we should be able to commission this hospital. As the minister said, this hospital is important because, since it was demolished, it was no longer serving patients,” he said.

The La General Hospital project, originally awarded in 2020, stalled due to funding delays, but President Mahama assured that funds will now be released promptly to fast-track its completion.
