President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday continued his state visit to Belarus with a strategic tour of the industrial city of Brest, where he explored opportunities to boost Ghana’s agricultural transformation through modern agro‑processing technologies.

The President was received by the Governor of Brest, Piotr Alexsandrovich Parkhomchik, and senior officials of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry before being taken through one of the country’s largest and most advanced agro‑processing plants.

The visit forms part of Ghana’s broader efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and learn from global best practices that can enhance agricultural production, value addition, and food security back home.

During the tour, President Mahama inspected the facility’s high‑tech dairy processing lines, which produce baby food, milk, cheese, and milk powder for both domestic consumption and export to international markets.

Accompanied by Presidential Advisor and Special Aide Joyce Bawah Mogtari and Ghana’s Ambassador to Moscow, Dr. Jehu‑Appiah, the President observed the various stages of production and engaged Belarusian officials on the technologies powering the plant’s efficiency and profitability.

In his remarks after the tour, President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to adopting modern processing techniques to transition from smallholder farming to large‑scale commercial agriculture.

“We are here to tap into Belarus’ vast experience as we work to make Ghana self‑dependent in food production,” he said.

He added that a key objective of the visit is to identify practical solutions to reduce post‑harvest losses — a persistent challenge for Ghanaian farmers.

The Managing Director of the company, Aleksandr Savchits, disclosed that the firm recorded over $1.4 billion in profit last year. He noted that the company has already begun exporting dairy products to Ghana and is eager to expand its export volumes as bilateral trade deepens.

President Mahama extended an invitation to Belarusian investors to partner with Ghanaian business associations, emphasising the mutual benefits such collaborations would bring.

Belarus remains a global leader in the export of dairy products, including milk powder, butter, and cheese.
