The Minority in Parliament has called for the removal of Clause 4 of the Tribunals Bill, 2026, arguing that the proposed provision could create confusion within Ghana’s justice system.
Clause 4 of the Bill seeks to establish Regional and District Tribunals, while Subclause 2 guarantees the independence of both bodies.
Speaking during debate on the Bill, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin said creating a separate tribunal structure could complicate the administration of justice rather than strengthen it.
He said the Minority is, therefore, urging Parliament to delete Clause 4 from the proposed legislation.
However, Attorney General and Minister for Justice Dr Dominic Ayine rejected the Minority’s concerns, describing them as misleading.
Responding to the debate, Dr Ayine defended the Bill, insisting that the proposed tribunal system is necessary and would not create confusion in the justice delivery process.
He maintained that the Minority had misinterpreted the provisions of the Bill and urged Parliament to support its passage.
