The National Democratic Congress mounted a major final rally in support of its parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, as the party intensifies efforts ahead of the March 3 poll.

The rally forms part of the party’s last push to energise supporters and maximise voter turnout in what it describes as a crucial contest. Party officials say they are leaving nothing to chance as they prepare for the by-election, noting that turnout in such polls is often low.

Campaign Manager for the NDC candidate, Alhaji Baba Nuhu Khalid, said the party is treating the election with utmost seriousness to ensure its supporters come out in large numbers.

“Obviously we are not leaving any stone unturned because normally in the by-elections the turnouts are normally low. So we just have to whip up the interest so that people will come out in their numbers to vote.

“That is why we take the by-election very seriously,” he said in an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, March 1.

The party has expressed strong confidence in securing victory in the constituency, citing its historical performance and recent projections.

A recent survey by Global InfoAnalytics projects Baba Jamal to win the seat with 75 percent of the vote. The poll, shared by the firm’s Executive Director, Mussa Dankwah, indicates that the NDC candidate could outperform the party’s 2024 parliamentary results in the constituency.

In the 2024 parliamentary election, the NDC’s Naser Toure garnered nearly 71 percent of the votes, while the New Patriotic Party candidate, Zak Rahman, secured 29 percent.

The latest projections further suggest that the NPP candidate in the upcoming by-election, Baba Ali, could obtain 21 percent of the vote, a potential decline from the party’s previous performance. Independent candidate Umar Sanda Muhammed is projected to secure 3 percent.

The survey was conducted between February 28 and March 1, 2026, sampling 972 voters at a 95 percent confidence level, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.05 percent.

With just days to the polls, the NDC says its focus remains on mobilising its base and ensuring a commanding turnout to clinch the Ayawaso East seat.
