The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Boamah, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) must focus on selecting strong parliamentary candidates as part of efforts to reclaim seats lost in the Greater Accra Region.
He said securing victory in the region should be a key priority for the new regional executives who will emerge from the ongoing elections.
Speaking to Citi News after casting his ballot at the WAEC Hall in Tema West, Mr Boamah commended the organisers, the Electoral Commission and the Police for ensuring an orderly process.

“You can see that the place is very orderly. And that’s the kind of organization we need for the NPP in Greater Accra. Leadership. Serious organisation towards 2028,” he said.
Mr Boamah stressed the strategic importance of Greater Accra to the NPP’s prospects in the 2028 general elections, citing the region’s large voter population. He urged party members who emerge victorious in the regional elections to be magnanimous in victory and embrace their opponents to ensure unity within the party.
“Accra is the biggest in terms of voter population. And if NPP does well in Accra, it resonates across the country,” he said.
“I beg them, those who win, they must be magnanimous in victory. They must embrace all other contestants who partook in the elections and couldn’t succeed, that we are all one family,” he added.
According to Mr Boamah, the NPP needs a stronger and more coordinated structure, backed by clear ideas and credible alternatives, to improve its chances in 2028.
“We all want a stronger NPP, a well coordinated NPP, a united NPP with focused leadership, good ideas, good alternatives for the good people of Ghana to decide when we go into the polls in 2028,” he added.

Reflecting on the party’s performance in Greater Accra, Mr Boamah said the NPP must prioritise the selection of parliamentary candidates capable of winning back constituencies lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“We need to find the right candidates for the constituencies. We need to give the constituencies the opportunity to select whoever will represent them well as parliamentary candidates and subsequently as MPs,” he said.
“If you flip it, it means the NDC also were the weaker party in Greater Accra. So it’s possible that we’ll surmount what we are seeing to become the majority party in Greater Accra,” he said.
Mr Boamah acknowledged that the NPP made mistakes that contributed to its electoral setbacks and said the regional elections provide an opportunity to elect leaders capable of correcting those shortcomings.
