OFFICIAL: Ghana qualify for FIFA World Cup Round of 32 before Croatia clash

Ghana have officially secured qualification for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup before kicking a ball in their final Group L match against Croatia.

The Black Stars’ place in the knockout stage was confirmed following results elsewhere in the tournament, which ensured that four points would be enough to guarantee progression under the competition’s expanded 48-team format.

Carlos Queiroz’s side join Egypt, England, Portugal and Paraguay as the latest nations to book their places in the knockout stage.

Ghana have accumulated four points from their opening two Group L matches after edging Panama 1-0 before producing an impressive goalless draw against tournament favourites England.

Those results left the Black Stars in a strong position, and with the qualification threshold now confirmed, Ghana are guaranteed to advance regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s clash with Croatia.

The expanded World Cup format sees the top two teams from each of the 12 groups qualify automatically for the Round of 32, alongside the eight best third-placed teams. Results in Group H ensured that no team finishing on four points could now miss out on qualification.

Although their place in the knockout stage is secure, Ghana still have plenty to play for against Croatia.

A victory could see the Black Stars finish top of Group L, depending on the outcome of the other group fixture between England and Panama. Finishing first would potentially hand Ghana a more favourable draw in the Round of 32.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz has repeatedly insisted his side will play for victory rather than settle for a result, saying on Friday: “I only know how to play to win.”

The Black Stars are making their first appearance in the World Cup knockout stage since their memorable run to the quarter-finals at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

With qualification now assured, Ghana can approach Saturday’s meeting with Croatia knowing their World Cup journey will continue into the knockout rounds, where they will seek to extend an impressive campaign that has already seen them keep clean sheets against both Panama and England.
