The Railway Workers Union is set to stage another picket at the Ministry of Transport on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, over unpaid salary arrears.
The planned protest follows what the union describes as the government’s failure to settle 14 months of outstanding salaries owed to its members.
Speaking in an interview on Newsfeed on Channel One TV on Tuesday, March 24, the General Secretary of the union, Benjamin Essuman, said that despite repeated assurances from government officials, the payment delays have persisted.
He disclosed that the union was recently informed by the Chief Director, William Kartey, that there would be an update by Wednesday, a development that has prompted their decision to return to the Ministry.
“Last Thursday, the Chief Director told us that by Wednesday, we would hear something from them. That is why we are going there again. I don’t want to go and sit down with them because it has been promise upon promise.
“I’ve been engaging them, and they keep shifting timelines. This time, I want to take all my members there so they can hear it for themselves,” he said.
The planned picketing follows an earlier protest by the workers on Thursday, March 19.
