The Chairman of the Ablekuma South Sub-Metro, Theophilus Isaac Quaye, has led a team from the Hydrological Authority and the contractor handling the sea defence project on an inspection tour of the Tuesday Market to assess its current condition and identify measures to improve the facility.

The inspection, conducted under the guidance of the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, forms part of efforts to upgrade the market’s infrastructure, improve drainage systems, and create a safer and cleaner trading environment.

Speaking after the tour, Theophilus Isaac Quaye said the initiative reflects the Assembly’s commitment to addressing the long-standing challenges facing the market through collaboration with key stakeholders.

“Today, together with officials from the Hydrological Authority and the contractor for the sea defence project, we inspected the Tuesday Market to assess its current condition and explore practical measures for its transformation,” he said.

He noted that the planned improvements are expected to enhance trading activities, promote public health, and contribute to the economic development of the area.

“Our goal is to improve the market’s infrastructure, enhance drainage, and create a safer, cleaner and more conducive environment for traders and residents,” the Sub-Metro Chairman stated.

Quaye emphasised that the inspection demonstrates the Assembly’s proactive approach to community development and infrastructure improvement.

“This initiative demonstrates our dedication to addressing long-standing challenges through collaboration and effective leadership. We are laying the foundation for a modernised market that will promote economic growth, improve public health and enhance the overall well-being of the community,” he said.

The Sub-Metro Chairman further outlined his broader vision towards the development of Ablekuma South, stressing his administration is committed to improving key public facilities across the municipality.

“As Sub-Metro Chairman, it is my vision to press every button on development, taking into consideration all aspects of community development including schools, markets, waste management and other essential services,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the combined efforts of his office, the Member of Parliament and the Mayor of Accra would deliver lasting development to residents.

“I am confident that the efforts of my office with the support of Hon. Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije and Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, will bring lasting benefits to the people of the five electoral areas in Ablekuma South,” Quaye added.
