Two people have died and six others sustained injuries after a DAF truck, a Sprinter bus and a tricycle were involved in a crash at Dr Marbel Junction on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.

The fatal accident occurred on Tuesday, September 1, and prompted a swift response from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters rescued one person who was trapped under the DAF truck and transported the victim to the Suhum Government Hospital.

“The accident involved a DAF truck with registration number BF 1722E6, a VW Sprinter bus with registration number ER 195-24 and a tricycle with registration number M-25-AS-8071, leaving six people injured and two dead,” the statement read in part.

Preliminary investigations indicate that brake failure caused the DAF truck to lose control before crashing into the Sprinter bus.

The impact subsequently caused the bus to collide with the tricycle, which was parked at the time of the incident.

The tricycle was completely destroyed, while the DAF truck and the Sprinter bus sustained partial damage.

The GNFS has since urged motorists to regularly service their vehicles and exercise caution on the roads to help reduce road crashes.

“Preliminary findings indicate that brake failure caused the DAF truck to lose control, crashing into the Sprinter bus, which subsequently collided with the parked tricycle,” the GNFS advised.
