Details have emerged following the motor accident involving the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, who has now been discharged from the University of Ghana Medical Centre after receiving treatment.

The traditional ruler was involved in a serious road accident on the evening of Wednesday, February 18, 2026, while returning to Accra from what palace officials described as an urgent mission.

Where and how the accident happened

Information from the Office of the Ga Mantse indicates that the incident occurred along the Pai–Katanga stretch of the highway in the Oti Region.

The king was travelling with his convoy at the time of the crash, which quickly drew widespread concerns across the Ga State and beyond.

Palace sources say the journey formed part of a private visit to the Northern Region at the invitation of the Dagbon overlord, Ya Naa.

The visit was aimed at strengthening traditional ties and fostering unity between the Ga and Dagbon kingdoms.

    Hospitalisation and discharge

Following the accident, the Ga Mantse was rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra, where he received medical attention.

Officials have confirmed that he has since been discharged after doctors assessed his condition as stable, bringing relief to traditional leaders and well-wishers who had been monitoring developments closely.

    Presidential visit

During his admission, the Ga Mantse received a visit from President John Dramani Mahama, who checked on his condition and conveyed the nation’s goodwill to him.

The presidential visit underscored the national significance of the monarch and the widespread concern generated by news of the accident.

    Ongoing attention

While details surrounding the exact circumstances of the crash remain limited, palace officials say the king is recuperating and expected to continue recovery after his discharge.

The incident has drawn strong reactions from traditional authorities and members of the public, many of whom have expressed relief at the positive update on his health.
