You’re behaving like a PRO for GFA – Kofi Adams slammed

Policy Committee Seth Panwum Boyoyo has slammed Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams for what, to him, seems the minister is “glorifying mediocrity” and acting as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Expressing his displeasure with the conduct of Kofi Adams, Seth Panwum Boyoyo admonished the Minister saying he should instead be leading a probe into the early exit of the national team, the Black Stars, from the 2026 World Cup by questioning the Ghana Football Association.

Seth Panwum Boyoyo, in a statement, conveyed the NPP Sports Committee’s position stating the Minister’s responsibility is to “safeguard the national interest, ensure accountability, and uphold standards in Ghanaian sports—not to serve as the public relations officer for the GFA and the Black Stars”.

Ghana’s World Cup campaign this year ended in the Round of 32, an outcome the committee says is “hardly different from previous disappointments, including the 2014 and 2022 campaigns”.

“There is, therefore, nothing extraordinary about the team’s performance that warrants excessive praise or an attempt to lower the standards by which our national teams are assessed,” the statement further said.

The committee drew comparisons to 2014 when despite Ghana earning a memorable 2–2 draw against the champions, Germany, the government still set up a Commission of Inquiry to examine the team’s participation.

“That decision reflected a commitment to accountability rather than public relations,” the committee stressed .

They further argued that the 2026 campaign “cannot be described as exceptional”, especially given the “significant financial commitment” made by the government and corporate sponsors.

“The GFA successfully persuaded the Government to commit substantial public resources toward appointing a high-profile stop-gap coach. Beyond state funding, considerable financial support was also received from Corporate Ghana in expectation of a competitive campaign and meaningful progress.”

“Given the scale of the investment, the results simply do not justify the celebratory narrative currently being promoted.”

The NPP Sports Committee called on the Minister to lead a push for “honest evaluation, transparent accountability, and a clear roadmap for improvement” instead of “a public relations exercise designed to shield administrators from legitimate scrutiny”.

“Public officials must objectively assess performance, demand accountability where necessary, and focus on identifying structural reforms that will restore Ghana football to sustained competitiveness.”
