The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has issued a final directive to traders operating along the streets of Lapaz to vacate the area within seven days or face enforcement action.
The warning was delivered during an inspection exercise led by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, the Mayor of Accra, Michael Nii Kpakpo Allotey, and the Municipal Chief Executive for Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, Christian Tetteh Badger.
The visit forms part of renewed efforts by city authorities to decongest the busy commercial area and improve movement for both motorists and pedestrians.
Officials say traders who fail to comply with the directive after the deadline will face sanctions.
Authorities have meanwhile begun temporary relocation measures for some traders to nearby markets, including markets at Achimota, Kisseman, and Abeka, while plans are being developed for more permanent arrangements.
Speaking during the exercise, Christian Tetteh Badger explained that the operation is intended to restore order and ease congestion within the Lapaz area.
He disclosed that prior consultations had been held with market leaders to facilitate fair allocation of available trading spaces.
According to him, task force and engineering teams have also been put in place to ensure strict enforcement of the exercise and maintain free movement within the area.
