The Forestry Commission’s Rapid Response Unit (RRU) has arrested 12 persons for allegedly engaging in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, inside the Atewa Range Forest Reserve in the Eastern Region. Two wooden structures and two metal containers have been destroyed by fire at Agringanor, opposite the Asamoah Gyan Filling Station. The fire, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, September 4, also destroyed the contents of the affected structures. The police have recovered an AK-47 rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition following an intelligence-led operation in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region. The Chamber of Cement Manufacturers, Ghana (COCMAG) has introduced a temporary GH¢12 surcharge per bag of cement to help manufacturers absorb rising demurrage costs caused by severe congestion at the Tema Port.
