    By Abongobi MediaSeptember 8, 20260

The government is introducing a new cost-sharing framework for television stations operating on Ghana’s Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) platform, with each station expected to pay US$7,000 per month during the initial years of implementation. Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, said the new arrangement was based on recommendations from a committee established to develop a sustainable financing model for the DTT platform. “I set up a committee, and that committee has recommended a sustainable cost-sharing framework and a graduated tariff support mechanism to complement the subsidised national tariff, which will see all TV stations on our…

Stranded Ghanaians in South Africa plead for extension of evacuation exercise

    By Abongobi MediaSeptember 8, 20260

Some Ghanaians still stranded in South Africa have appealed to the government to reopen and extend its voluntary evacuation programme, saying they have been left desperate after losing their jobs, businesses and accommodation amid xenophobic attacks. The appeal follows the government’s decision to end the exercise after the final batch of 41 Ghanaians arrived in Ghana on September 4, bringing the total number of returnees to 1,964. However, some Ghanaians who remain in South Africa say they are still facing difficult conditions and want the government to provide them with another opportunity to return home. Speaking on Eyewitness News on…

    By Abongobi MediaSeptember 8, 20260

New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspiring General Secretary Sylvester Tetteh said his decision to leave the Ningo Prampram constituency and contest Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro was strategic, not out of fear. Mr Tetteh said he had already built a strong political record in Ningo Prampram before making the switch, pointing to the results he achieved in the constituency. “The record I left at Ningo Prampram has not yet been broken in terms of numbers. You can check 2012. The record I made is still the highest in the history of the NPP party,” he said on Adom TV. Tetteh also rejected suggestions that…

NDC must guard against political suicide – GFL warns

    By Abongobi MediaSeptember 8, 20260

Mr Abraham Koomson, Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), on Monday cautioned the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) against complacency and internal divisions, warning that any political miscalculation could amount to “political suicide” and create an opening for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to return to power. Mr Koomson identified nine landmines that the NDC must avoid, which include potential neglect of grassroots and foot soldiers; arrogance and disconnect of appointees; failure to deliver manifesto promises; and corruption, nepotism and impunity. The others are internal factionalism and power struggles, mishandling of Galamsey and natural resources, economic hardship and…

‘How do you implement it in an economy like Ghana?’ – Sekou Nkrumah on 24-hour economy

    By Abongobi MediaSeptember 8, 20260

Pan-African analyst Sekou Nkrumah has backed the government’s 24-hour economy policy but cautioned that it must be tied to a broader long-term strategy to transform Ghana’s productive capacity.Nkrumah said the concept was sound, but questioned whether Ghana currently had the industries, infrastructure and energy capacity required to make round-the-clock production sustainable.Speaking on The Last Word on Asaase Radio on Thursday (3 September), he said the policy should not become a “mirage” — an attractive idea that appears within reach but fails to materialise because of weak implementation.“Nobody has a problem with the concept or the policy, but sometimes I think…
