The Government of Ghana has congratulated Rev. Enoch Nii Narh Thompson following his election as Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, describing the development as a significant milestone for Christian leadership, national unity, and peacebuilding in the country.

Rev. Thompson was elected during the Council’s 2026 Annual General Meeting, ushering in what observers believe will be a new phase of leadership for one of Ghana’s most influential ecumenical institutions.

In a statement issued by the Office of the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah described Rev. Thompson’s election as a well-deserved recognition of his years of dedicated Christian service and commitment to national development.

The statement commended the Christian Council for what it described as a significant decision and expressed confidence in Rev. Thompson’s ability to provide strong, visionary, and unifying leadership.

Government also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with faith-based institutions to advance peacebuilding, national cohesion, and development initiatives across the country.

The statement further praised the outgoing Chairman of the Council, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. B.D.K. Agbeko, for his leadership and cooperation with the state during his tenure.

Rev. Thompson is widely respected within Christian and academic circles as a theologian, pastor, educator, and administrator with decades of ministry experience in Ghana and abroad.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Spanish Studies from the University of Ghana and the Complutense University of Madrid.

He later earned a Diploma in Theology from Maranatha Bible College and a Master of Divinity in Biblical Studies from Prairie Graduate School.

He also obtained a Master of Philosophy degree in the Study of Religions from the University of Ghana and later pursued leadership studies at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.

Over the years, Rev. Thompson has served in various pastoral and leadership roles, including at Messiah Baptist Church and Hope for Life Christian Fellowship in Calgary, Canada.

Within the Ghana Baptist Convention, he served as Vice President in charge of Ministries from 2014 to 2022 and currently serves as Executive President.

His international profile grew further in 2023 when he was elected onto the Executive Committee of the Baptist World Alliance during its annual gathering in Norway.

Rev. Thompson has also contributed significantly to theological education through teaching and mentoring roles at institutions including Maranatha University College, Prairie Graduate School, and Ghana Baptist University College.

Observers believe his election will further strengthen the Christian Council of Ghana’s role in national conversations on morality, governance, peacebuilding, and interfaith relations.
